| The spine, which in a normal position should have 3 natural curves, is the mechanical structure that supports an individual throughout his/her lifetime. It supports us in sitting and standing and allows us to bend, stoop, squat, twist, turn, and function throughout our activities of daily living. The spine is made up of individual vertebra that in our low back sit upon a sacrum, with a fluid filled disc separating each vertebra. The vertebral discs serve as shock absorbers during our daily activities and motions of the spine. Nerves emerge from behind the discs to innervate muscles. |
